Aspire Support Coordination – NDIS FAQs

1. Am I Eligible for Support Coordination?

Eligibility for Support Coordination is usually determined during your NDIS planning meeting. It’s typically included in your plan if you have complex needs, multiple supports, or would benefit from extra help navigating the NDIS. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) will decide based on what is considered reasonable and necessary for your circumstances.

2. What If I’m Not Satisfied with My Support Coordinator?

Your satisfaction matters. If you feel your needs aren’t being met, you have the right to request a different Support Coordinator at any time — even if you are currently with another organisation.

Under the NDIS principles of choice and control, you are free to work with the provider who best suits your needs. If you decide to switch, Aspire Support Coordination can help you explore whether this is the best option for you and assist with the transition to make it as smooth as possible.

Likewise, if we are not the right fit for you, we fully respect your choice to move on to another Support Coordinator. We will work with you and your family to ensure the process is handled with care, understanding, and minimal disruption to your supports.

At Aspire, we want you to feel comfortable, understood, and confident that your supports are working for you — and we’re always happy to adjust if something isn’t the right fit.

3. Why Should I Choose Aspire Support Coordination?

Aspire Support Coordination is an independent service focused solely on your goals, needs, and preferences. We work alongside you (and your support network) to:

  • Understand your NDIS plan and funding.

  • Connect you with the right providers and community supports.

  • Build your skills and confidence to manage your plan in the future.
We believe in clear communication, personalised planning, and putting you at the centre of every decision.

4. What Is Support Coordination Under the NDIS?

Support Coordination is all about helping you make the most of your NDIS plan. Your Support Coordinator works with you to:

  • Understand and implement your plan.

  • Connect you to services that meet your needs.

  • Problem-solve if things aren’t working.

  • Build your independence and confidence over time.

5. What Are the Responsibilities of a Support Coordinator?

A Support Coordinator will:

  • Explain your NDIS plan and funding categories.

  • Help you choose and connect with providers.

  • Ensure your supports work well together.

  • Assist in preparing for plan reviews.

  • Support you through any changes or challenges.

6. Does My Support Coordinator Need to Live in My Area?

No — but having local knowledge is a big advantage. Aspire Support Coordination works with participants across different regions and can connect you with local and online supports that suit your needs.

7. What’s the Difference Between Support Coordination and Plan Management?

  • Support Coordination: Helps you use your funding, choose services, and coordinate your supports.

  • Plan Management: Handles the financial side — paying invoices, tracking budgets, and managing your NDIS claims.
You can have both in your plan if funded.

8. How Often Do I Need to Meet with My Support Coordinator?

This depends on your needs and budget. Some people prefer regular check-ins, while others only need support at certain stages (like starting a new plan or changing providers). Meetings can be in person, over the phone, or online.

9. Can Aspire Support Coordination Work with All NDIS Management Types?

Yes — we work with:

  • NDIS-managed (through a registered partner provider)

  • Plan-managed

  • Self-managed
We adapt our process to suit your plan type.

10. How Does Aspire Support Coordination Communicate with Me?

We use whatever method works best for you — phone, email, text, video calls, or face-to-face meetings. We also aim to be flexible with appointment times to fit your schedule.

11. Can You Help in a Crisis or When Something Changes Suddenly?

Yes. If your situation changes unexpectedly — like a health issue, housing crisis, or provider breakdown — we can help connect you to urgent supports and adjust your plan where possible.

Finding the Right Support with Aspire
We focus on building strong, trusting relationships so you feel supported, heard, and in control of your NDIS journey. Whether you need guidance getting started, help finding the right providers, or support during big life changes — we’re here to make your plan work for you.

12. What Are the Different Types of NDIS Funding?

Your NDIS plan is divided into different budgets, each designed to help you reach your goals.

A Core Supports – Everyday support

Core funding helps you with day-to-day activities and needs. This can include:

  • Support workers to help with personal care, cooking, or shopping.

  • Help to get to appointments or community activities.

  • Consumables like continence products or low-cost assistive items.

  • Short-term accommodation/respite.

Core is the most flexible budget — you can usually move funds between categories in Core to suit your needs.

B. Capacity Building – Building skills and independence

Capacity Building is about learning, improving, and building skills to increase your independence and achieve your goals. This may include:

  • Therapies like physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, or speech therapy.

  • Support Coordination.

  • Exercise physiology and dietitian services.

  • Building skills for work, study, or daily living.

Capacity Building is not flexible between categories — funds must be used for the specific support area they’re allocated to.

C. Capital Supports – Equipment and home/vehicle modifications

Capital funding covers big-ticket items and investments that you need due to your disability. This might include:

  • Assistive technology (wheelchairs, communication devices, beds, hoists).

  • Home modifications (ramps, bathroom changes, widening doorways).

  • Vehicle modifications.

Capital funding is very specific — you can’t move funds around, and items usually require quotes and NDIA approval.

13. What Is and Isn’t Funded in My NDIS Plan?

The NDIS funds supports and services that are reasonable and necessary to help you achieve your goals and live more independently.

Generally, the NDIS will fund things that:

  • Are related to your disability.

  • Are value for money.

  • Help you build skills, increase independence, or participate in your community.

  • Are not already funded by another service (like Medicare, housing, or education).

The NDIS usually won’t fund:

  • Day-to-day living costs not related to your disability (e.g., rent, groceries, phones).

  • Medical or hospital services covered by Medicare.

  • Entertainment, holidays, or personal gifts.
